TiruList connects the Ethiopian and Eritrean community across the United States by bringing the businesses, services, and cultural knowledge that are otherwise scattered and hard to find into one trusted place.

The problem

A general web search does not surface what the Habesha community actually needs. Finding a trusted Habesha contractor, a Habesha nanny, or current, community-verified information, such as which market has the freshest tere sega right now, is difficult through mainstream search engines and directories. That knowledge lives in group chats and word of mouth. It is real, but it is not organized, not searchable, and not in one accessible place. As a result, community members waste time, rely on guesswork, and good local providers stay invisible to the people who would value them most.

What TiruList does

TiruList is a community-driven directory paired with a living layer of community signal and a practical knowledge base. Together they make the informal network the community already relies on visible, searchable, and current.

The directory covers Habesha businesses and services, from restaurants and markets to contractors, caregivers, and professionals. On top of it sits a layer of community signal: reviews, vouches from people you trust, and clear indicators of what is open now and what is in demand. Alongside the directory, a knowledge base captures Habesha culture and everyday practical life, including equb and idir, the fasting calendar, and the language, so the context behind the community is preserved and easy to pass on.

Why it matters

TiruList saves people time by putting trusted providers and answers in one place instead of spread across a dozen group chats. It surfaces vetted, community-backed businesses so members can choose with confidence. Because the community itself keeps the information current, what you find reflects what is true today rather than a stale listing. And by documenting cultural and practical knowledge, TiruList helps preserve and pass on what would otherwise be lost between generations. It is built to be the place the community turns to first. We are starting in the DMV and expanding city by city.

What is next

We built TiruList because the community deserved a real home online, not a scattering of listings and lost group chats. Our near-term focus is to deepen coverage and trust in the DMV, where the community is dense and the need is clear. From there, we plan to expand to other US metros with large Habesha populations, bringing the same directory, community signal, and knowledge base to each new city. We are only getting started.
